Practicing Kindness Wrap Up

Practicing kindness was such a good idea. Thank you Sarah! Its been a challenge but it's definitely been worth it. I'm feeling so much better in my self- I shall be continuing this until the end of the year. If any of you are thinking about it I really suggest you give it a go. Even if you don't think you 'need it' we all have those moments of internal negativity. Some of the little things I've noticed make a big difference are:
  • Bringing flowers in from the garden- It makes my whole day better and the house feels so different
  • Eating at the table- setting the table, eating on the balcony even if I'm alone!
  • Listening to happy music- makes housework so much better
  • Getting out in the sun
  • Regular exercise that I enjoy- not pushing myself through hell to loose weight but going for a ride because I love it :)
  • Meditating- even if its for 5 minutes whilst waiting for the train
  • Using positive affirmations and quotes such as "I am a beautiful bright valuable individual who deserves to be respected and treasured"
  • Reading instead of watching mindless tv- I enjoy mindless tv, sometimes I crave it for my down time but I'm realising that I can achieve it with a walk, meditating or reading something easy and entertaining (harry potter anyone?) instead of my uni work. Reading is such a huge part of my uni work and art research that I tend to think of it as mentally stimulating and hard work rather than relaxing.
I've only had one bad episode of negativity. It wasn't good but I was proud that I managed to overcome it and focus on the positive aspects of myself and my life rather than let the negative thoughts consume me. You know what really helped? The thought of writing my internal thoughts on my mirror. I write myself little messages or quotes in white board marker and they help me start my day feeling bright and beautiful and the visualisation of my negative thoughts written out was enough to snap myself out of it and move past it. Thank goodness. This month has been harder than I thought it would be. I'm going to continue this into next month and the next month and hopefully by then I won't have to focus on it so much. Here's to building good habits!

Hope you're all well and happy xxx
